PRESENTATION
La Canaleja hiking route is a perfect one to be done with the whole family. It starts at the “Humilladero” square and continues through paths which are of great interest due to its rich vegetation which will surround us throughout the walk. You will be able to admire some oak, chestnut and pine trees.
Shortly after setting off, you will come across the first point of interest of La Canaleja route, the bridge over the Candelario river, an idyllic spot perfect for taking pictures of the mountain range. You will continue the route to reach the second point of interest which is the bridge over the Barquillo river.
Due to its characteristics, the route turns out to be easy and pleasant. Most of the time you will walk in the shade guaranteed by the impressive and abundant vegetation. Please be careful because even though the route has been signposted well, you will come across numerous crossings where you might easily get confused if you do not follow the posts signed with a red plate.
We will continue our walk discovering the beauty of the Bejar and Candelario mountain ranges. You will pass by some farmland where with a little bit of luck you will be able to observe some cows grazing on oak and chestnut groves.
Only in the final stretch of the route the lack of shade might be noticed thus we recommend using sun protection and a head covering especially if you are hiking with children. Once you have reached the end of the route signposted with a red plate with white FR letters on it, you will come across a road which connects Candelario with Navacarros.
One you have reached this point, there are two options. You can either go back and follow the same route o you can turn right and walk along the road towards Candelario, doing in this way a circular route. Please bear in mind that even though it’s a local road where there isn’t much traffic, it’s extremely important to take all security measures possible. No matter which options you will choose, you will finally reach the starting point where you will be able to enjoy a walk along paved streets of Candelario which will provide you with a number of fountains to recover energy.
There is also a possibility of connecting this route with “La Garganta de Oso” route marked with the green colour which is loacted nearby. To do so, one you have finished La Canaleja route you will need to turn left and after walking for around 250 metres you will come across the starting point of the other route.
